5 Steps to Smooth, Beautiful Lips with More Volume

Plump lips are more desirable in today’s world. Many women aspire to shapely, smooth, and full lips, just like Kylie Jenner. Some opt to have lip fillers when nature doesn’t bless them with naturally fulsome lip, but there are many other – more natural – ways to achieve smooth lips with more volume. Read on to find out more.

    #1. Protect Your Lips

Protection should always be your first step. Our lips are vulnerable to sunshine, wind, and cold weather, so they need protection at all times. Apply a UV lip balm every day, whatever the weather. This will help to protect your lips from sun damage and fine lines.

It’s also a good idea to quit smoking. Cigarette smoke is full of carcinogens that contribute to a loss of volume and speed up the natural aging process. The sooner you give up smoking, the better.

    #2. Lip Scrubs

Nothing looks worse than flaking, dry lips. It doesn’t matter how full they are – good luck trying to find anyone willing to kiss you if your lips are dry and peeling!

Remove dead skin and flaky bits with a lip scrub. This one is really good, but you can also have a go at making your own if you have time. Mix together sugar and honey to make a paste and rub it gently over your lips.

Another option is to use a toothbrush on your lips. Give your lips a quick scrub before you apply makeup. This improves blood flow to the area and helps to remove dead skin.

    #3. Lip Masks

Lip masks are another top treatment to try if you want super smooth, kissable lips. You can buy lip masks from top skincare brands or you can make your own using honey, coconut oil, and other natural ingredients. Apply your lip mask and leave on for 20 minutes while it moisturizes and protects your skin.

    #4. Hydrate Your Lips

You will struggle to achieve smooth lips unless you stay well hydrated. Try and drink at least two liters of water each day. If this is a big ask, carry a bottle of water with you and keep sipping. It’s a lot easier to do that instead of glugging down a large amount in one go.

Another way to hydrate your lips is to rub in some nipple cream (the same stuff breastfeeding moms use to prevent cracking and keep their nipples supple). Nipple cream contains lanolin, which is an essential ingredient if you want smooth, hydrated lips.

Be aware that some people are allergic to lanolin, so do a patch test in an inconspicuous area before you try using this on your lips. If you notice any adverse reaction, do not use a product containing lanolin on your lips.

    #5. Apply Stimulating Ingredients

The expression “bee-stung” lips may have originated from the swelling caused by being stung in the lip area, but if you want the same effect without the pain, raid your store cupboard for some cinnamon. This aromatic spice stimulates blood flow and adds volume to lips. Peppermint and hot chili pepper oil will have the same effect but go easy on the chili oil!

Finally, the other option is to fake it. If your lips are on the thin side, careful use of cosmetics can help you achieve a fuller look. It takes skill, but if you draw a line slightly beyond the natural edge of your lips, fill in with matt lipstick, and finish with a coat of clear gloss, your lips will look plump and sexy. Try a lip kit and see.
