    6 Places to go on a City Break this Year

    If you have a few days free and are looking for the perfect city break, there are lots of different options for you to explore. You will find reasonably priced flights and accommodation options in some of the most exciting cities in the world these days, meaning the world is your oyster. Here we have listed some of the top places that we’d recommend for the ultimate city break you have been looking for.

    Barcelona

    Barcelona is a fantastic city. It has so much to offer when it comes to culture and history – that you may need more than a few days there. There are lots of tourist destinations such as Las Ramblas which is one of the longest streets in Europe, not to mention some fantastic tapas. There are lots of ways to explore the city, such as bike ride or some great tours put in place that you can find on sites like barcelonina. With beautiful beaches, scenic mountains and quaint and quirky streets – you will love exploring.  Barcelona also has some of the most sensational sunsets in the world – choose your high point in the city and watch the sunset.  Barcelona is also famous for the fantastic beaches they have, and you don’t need to walk too far to find them. This means you can enjoy some sun, sea and sand with your city break.

    Amsterdam

    Amsterdam is filled with fantastic activity, making it a perfect city break. There are more than 50 museums to visit if you feel like some culture, including the world-famous Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum. It’s also known for its beautiful canals. You will see some unique canal houses, and there are lots of canal tours and experiences that you can take part in where you can enjoy a leisurely trip and enjoy some food and drinks as well as the scenery.

    You can also enjoy one of a kind trips that you won’t find anywhere else. Like the Heineken experience, for example. You can visit what the brewery that made this beer brand so famous was. You will hear the story about a small brewery that started off their distribution with a horse and carriage – ended up selling their beer to nearly 200 countries. You may want to experience some of the more “interesting” parts of Amsterdam too such as the Red Light District or the coffee shops.

    Rome

    There is nothing quite like the capital of Italy. This beautiful place is steeped in culture.  You can visit some of the historical sites such as the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Spanish steps, or the Roman forum. Of course, Rome is also home to Vatican City, which is visited by thousands of people every year. You don’t need to be religious to appreciate what Vatican City and their museums have to offer. Saint Peters Basilica is an amazing site to enjoy at night time and also notably quieter – so a great experience. You can access all of these sights on the handy hop on, hop off buses that the city has to offer which are also cost-effective.

    This gives you the luxury of spending as much time as you would like in each area. All of these sights are reasonably close to each other too, so it won’t take you long to get there.  Of course, when in Rome – enjoy the fantastic food and wine that makes this city so unique too.

    Venice

    If you are looking to enjoy a romantic city break – look no further than Venice. With gondola rides aplenty taking you across the canals, it’s an amazing site. You can even enjoy being serenaded with a glass of bubbly in hand to add to it. There are some beautiful sites to see such as St Mark’s Square, the Rialto Bridge – and of course the Grand Canal itself which you will find featured on many a piece of art. There are so many restaurants and bars for you to try out that you will be stuck for choice.

    You could even try out Harry’s Bar, which has been declared a national landmark. It’s a renowned restaurant that is as famous for inventing the Bellini as it is for its history in general. The canals, history and striking appearance makes this a one of a kind city and would make for an unforgettable city break.

    Prague

    Prague is an incredibly popular city and a fantastic place to visit. There are lots of reasons to visit this beautiful place. If you go to the Old Town Square, you will find the Astronomical Clock where the Walk of the Apostles clockwork show will occur. It’s a fantastic spectacle. Then there is the amazing Charles Bridge. This is usually a busy place as people are dying to watch the sunrise or the sunset. You can also experience culture slightly differently in Prague than you can elsewhere. Pretty much everything in this city is artistic – it’s like walking through a museum in the open air.  The streets are also incredibly clean, so it always looks pristine.

    Music fans will love Prague. Nearly everywhere you go you will encounter fantastic street musicians, and in the churches and palaces – you can enjoy some classical music. As if that wasn’t enough to persuade you – there are also fantastic shopping experiences to enjoy. You can hit the shops at the Novy Shopping Center, the Palladium and other places.

    Paris

    Paris is arguably the most romantic city in the world. Home to fantastic attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre and the Notre Dame Cathedral – you will never be stuck for things to do. You will also find the infamous Moulin Rouge there if you are looking for something more adventurous. If you want to go for the scenic route, you might want to go for a cruise on the Seine at night – this is the best place to experience the city as all of the amazing buildings will be lit up. If you are looking for some fun and entertainment, or if you have the kids – you could also go on a trip to Disneyland Paris.  It’s not far from central Paris (around 32km). There are two main theme parks, which are Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios.

    You will find infamous attractions such as Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain. You will also be able to meet your favourite Disney characters. While you are enjoying all of this – don’t forget to try out famous French cuisine. As well as croissants, pastries and fabulous wines, you may want to try out some of the local delicacies. There are also excellent wine tasting tours that are held in Paris for those of you who are wine boffins or wannabe sommeliers. France is the perfect, foodie heaven.
