What to Look for in the Best Bottle Openers

Ask any wine enthusiast, and they will often tell you that you can spend as much time selecting  wine accessories as you can enjoying the wine. Such things as decanters, chill sticks, fridges and temperature gauges are all important for the wine hobbyist.

However, there is absolutely nothing you can do without an appropriate wine opener. Luckily, there are many options to choose from on the market today. There are plenty of options that are available, and there are some wine openers that many individuals will swear by.

Either way, though, it is important to remember that the cardinal rule when selecting a wine opener is to go with the model that you’re most comfortable with. Of course, there are many dyed-in-the-wool attributes that make some wine openers better than others. Read on to fully understand some of these characteristics:

The best wine openers will have convenient handling ability.

A good wine opener should have a number of features available in order for you to properly grasp the device and to be able to open the wine bottle easily. Some examples of this would include the possibility of having a smooth lever action, making it easier for you to grasp even the most stubborn of wine corks.

Moreover, many wine openers should allow for corks that have an expansive length. Many wine openers will solve this problem by having a solid Fulcrum ability. This will allow the user to remove almost any cork that they come across.

Moreover, there are some wine openers that are electric. While these won’t appeal to everyone, there are some who will find this to be a good fit for them.

Great wine openers will be well-built.

It might seem like a no-brainer, but not all wine openers are created equal when it comes to their design. According to WineTurtle, one of the things that sets apart a wine opener with an excellent design from one with just a so-so design would be such things as being made from stainless steel; having a serrated edge; and it produces a long and healthy charge if it is a battery-powered option.

Of course, in this particular situation there is nothing wrong with having discerning tastes. Whatever design you choose, it probably wouldn’t hurt for you to try it out for a couple of passes before you purchase it outright.

A solid wine opener will have a well-developed track record when it comes to removing any and all wine corks.

Ask any wine connoisseur and they will tell you that the removal of a wine cork can deviate all the way from terribly frustrating to downright impossible. That is why a wine opener that has a good record of opening a variety of wine corks will always come in handy. First of all, in order to fully understand the track record of a certain type of wine opener, you must first know a thing or two about the type of wine opener itself.

Generally, a wine opener that has been constructed with a lever action will do very well with opening almost any wine cork. This is because the lever action by its very nature is a powerful object that can grasp many different things. Of course, if there is one drawback to all of this it would be that a lever action wine opener is going to require a lot of practice before the wine enthusiast can get it down pat.

Additionally, a corkscrew wine opener will also be a powerful alternative that will be able to open just about any wine bottle. However, much like a lever action option a typical corkscrew wine opener is going to require a great deal of practice before the user can get it down pat. Moreover, another drawback to using the corkscrew would have to be the fact that it is a very stiff wine opener as well. Those who have poor fine motor skills or arthritis might have some difficulty using this type.

Finally, there is the electronic type of wine opener.

Needless to say, this is probably the most controversial of the bunch for a number of reasons. First of all, there are many people who swear by this type, especially if they have some of the medical conditions mentioned above.

However, there also seems to be an equal amount of people who think that an electronic wine opener just isn’t all that effective at removing the corks like the other two. Naturally, a good rule of thumb would be to try out all three in order to fully determine which one would work best for you.
